10 Craziest Things Named After NBA Players
Before Pearl Jam got their current name, the band was called Mookie Blaylock, after an effective point guard who played in the 90s. The story goes that the band loved basketball cards and didn’t have a name before their first tour. Baylock’s name stood out, so they decided to go with it.
The band’s bassist Jeff Ament said: “Mookie was cool about it, too—he didn’t sue us. I actually got to meet him later on and shoot around a little bit. We also made a Pearl Jam T-shirt with a picture of him on it. I guess we owe Mookie a lot.”
Pearl Jam also has an album called Ten, a reference to Baylock’s jersey number.
