The Story Behind Every NBA Team’s Name

Before settling down in Sacramento, the Kings were known as the Rochester (1945-1957) and later Cincinnati (1957-1972) Royals. They then moved to Kansas City in 1972 and had to changed their name to Kings because KC already had a baseball team called Royals. From 1972 to 1975 they represented both Kansas City and Omaha before playing out of Kansas City exlcusively. The name stuck after the move to California
