The Craziest Contracts in NBA History
In 1981, Earvin “Magic” Johnson signed a $25 million, 25 year contract with the Lakers. Even though a million a year is peanuts in today’s NBA, few players earned more than that in the 80s. The length was the real kicker here. Obviously, the Lakers didn’t intend for him to play that long, moving him to a management position later on. Still, Magic was the typical young player who was given too much too soon at the time, and guaranteeing him a place in your organization for that long is an incredible commitment.
