Serge Ibaka was born in Brazzaville, Congo and was one of 18 kids in his family. He was only 7 when much of his hometown was destroyed in the June 5 War. The Second Congo War came when he was only 9 years old, forcing his family to relocate to a small town called Ouesso at the country’s far north, where they lived for nearly 3 years with only periodic access to water and electricity.
