Every NBA Team’s Worst Draft Pick since 2000 – Pt3

Rajon Rondo – PHX – No 21, 2006

Picking Rajon Rondo was a great move for the Suns, but what they did with him afterwards – not so much. They could have had him backing up and learning from a prime Steve Nash, but instead they shipped him off to Boston for a first round pick the following year. To back up Nash, the Suns signed Marcus Banks as a free agent for $24 million. The Book of Basketball has the following quote by Bill Simmons

“A few weeks later, (the Suns) gave Marcus Banks $24 million. Would you rather have a potential up-and-comer like Rondo for cheap money or a proven turd like Banks for five times as much? Tough call. If you just had a head injury.”
